Now Panthers Brass has the history of converting former basketball players to NFL caliber pieces as head coach Dave Canales and General Manager Dan Morgan did it with George Fant with Seattle Seahawks.
Fant, standing on 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, played basketball in western Kentucky and he was transformed into a hybrid offensive tackle and tight end. He ended up playing seven overall seasons with Seattle, the New York Jets and Houston Texans.

ESPN reports that Fant has worked with Granger to get him ready for the transition, and it was he who told Panthers about his potential.
However, Granger has not been on a football field since eighth grade, so the transition is not expected to be easy.
But of course this is not new, especially in the tight final position. Think Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham and the great Tony Gonzalez, all of whom were former basketball players before they saw lots of success in the NFL.

Granger competes with a number of tight ends in Panthers training camp this summer, including Tommy Tremble and Ja’tavion Sanders.
