Quinn Ewers took a chance to go to the NFL instead of transferring from Texas Longhorns to promote his college football career.
Ewers saw himself slip from a mid -draft projection to the last round last week. Miami Dolphins chose Ewers in the seventh round. He will probably have to fight with Zach Wilson for backup -quarterback job.

Former Texas star and his agent Ron Slavin opened to ESPN for a story about his draft slide. Slavin revealed their mindset as hours and minutes crossed away during the draft. He said he thought Ewers could have had a good chance of landing with Las Vegas Raiders or Seattle Seahawks on day 2nd, but the so-called “nightmare” scenario took place when Raiders passed on quarterback for two FCS guys, a department lower than the top in college football.
Slavin said he had spoken to two teams before the seventh round started – Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys. That’s when Miami finally took him. Slavin told ESPN he had reached out of about “half of the league” to see why his client fell from a fourth round projected all the way to round seven.
“They thought he was a third or fourth round pick, but too big a name to be a clipboard holder,” he said. “As I think are chickens —”

Ewers said he will use the draft easily as fuel.
“It’s definitely a lot of motivation that comes with it, especially just being the last (quarterback) draft,” Ewers said. “I still have the high expectations of myself, but right from the outside, this first time looks in my life not to have so much expectation. There is definitely motivation and fuel. Much of it.”
Ewers was one of the top quarterbacks in high school when he originally committed to Ohio State. He transferred to Texas before the 2022 season and spent the rest of his career there.
