Los Angeles Rams made a big splash before the legal stamping period began in the NFL on Monday and signed the New York Jets-Release Davante Adams for a two-year deal.
The signing was met with positive speculation on the way into the 2025 season, especially with quarterback Matthew Stafford locked inside and satisfied with his own contract situation.
But a big question was back: Who carries # 17?

This number has belonged to the budding star recipient Puka Nacua in the last two seasons, and he has definitely made this number popular among the fan base. Nacua has quickly become Staffford’s favorite goal, but Adams is his senior and he closes any speculation about who will carry the number.
Rams announced that Nacua will carry No. 12, moving forward, which he wore in high school and at Byu in his college days.

On the other hand, Adams will continue to bear # 17, which he has done since Green Bay Packers took him in the second round of the NFL draft in 2014.
Adams has been traded twice since 2022, when he first went to Las Vegas Raiders, followed by his move to Jets this last season. He has also borne No. 17 with each of these teams.
Nacua announced the move on Instagram and said he “continued the Nacua heritage!”
“No. 12 represents me not only on the football field, but all my brothers and the sacrifices that my family led to me to wear this jersey at this moment. I know when I take on it # 12, it is a piece of armor that represents my family and always protects me.
“For all the 17s out there, I appreciate your support and have things in the works to show you all love!”

Nacua also spoke with the team’s official website about the number change and said No. 12 felt like a “piece of armor” when he was on the field.
“Every time I looked at the grandstand, I knew I could find one of my family members there, whether it was one of my brothers or my mother who was on each possible game. I know when I go to the number 12, it’s a piece of armor that represents my family that always protects me.”
Rams hopes Nacua’s production does not change with his number as he has been fantastic since the team took him in the fifth round of the 2023 draft.
Nacua resets Rookie, who received records at that time with 1,486 yards at 105 receptions with six touchdowns over 17 games, and earned his first Pro Bowl in his career.

Despite the injury that held him back in year two (11 games game), Nacua was still able to catch 79 passports in 990 yards with three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Adam’s 1,063 meters had combined between Raiders and Jets over 14 games and also drawn 85 receptions with eight touchdowns.
