NFL News: Titans Edge Rusher with suddenly retires only one day before training camp

Tennessee Titans announced that Veteran Edge Rusher Lorenzo Carter informed the team that he will retire on Tuesday, just one day before the training camp began Wednesday.

Carter, 29, signed a one-year agreement with Titans under the free agency ahead of the 2025 season.

“He informed us yesterday he is retiring,” said Titan’s General Manager Mile Borgonzi in the announcement, “so we wish him well.”

Carter played in the NFL for seven seasons after New York Giants chose him in the third round of the NFL draft in 2018 out of Georgia.

The Edge Rusher spent the first four seasons of Giants before joining his hometown of Atlanta Falcons in the last three seasons of his career.

Carter started 62 of his 96 career games in the NFL. He started only two of his 15 matches in his rookie year, but after that he became a regular starter with Giants.

For four seasons with Giants, Carter had 153 combined tackles, 14.5 sacks, an interception, 15 passports defended, five forced fumbles and four fumble recovery.

After his four -year -old stint with Giants, Carter signed a one -year contract of $ 3.5 million with Falcons. Carter started all 17 games that season and parlayed it for a two-year contract of $ 9 million the following season.

Last season, Carter started 11 of the 13 games he played in, and had 32 combined tackles and no sacks for Falcons.

Without Carter, the Titans have seven Edge Rushers on their list: Arden Key, Dre’mont Jones, Femi Oladejo, Jaylen Harrell, Ali Gaye, Titus Leo and Desmond Evans.
