NFL News: Zach Wilson hopeful to start quarterback option still

Previous New York Jets Quarterback Zach Wilson is ready to embrace the backup position in Miami, but he is not ready to embrace the title “Journeyman” yet.

The earlier second total choice of Byu returned to AFC-East during the high season of one year agreement with Miami Dolphins – The same division that saw Wilson’s career as a starting quarterback in the NFL ended almost as quickly as it began.

Wilson, 25, was traded after three turbulent seasons in New York and saw no action during the 2024 season with Denver Broncos as the third strict quarterback. He moved up the depth card in Miami, but for Wilson he hopes there is still an opportunity to return as a starter.

“I mean I would like to see it differently,” Wilson told journalists Monday when he was asked if he embraces the “Journeyman -Mark.”

“Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with being a traveler, but I still think I can be a starter in this league when this opportunity comes. And then I just try to put myself in the best situation with the best team and train and do the absolute best I can, and hopefully at some point you can have that opportunity to show what you could do.”

Wilson was benched in his second season with Jets, a step that would clear the way for four-time league mvp Aaron Rodgers. But a seasonal ending injury for Rodgers would give Wilson another chance.

Despite not turning it around, Wilson said his time with Broncos allowed him time to develop and improve, and he hopes his time in Miami will do the same.

“What shouldn’t you like, right? [Mike] McDaniel and goes all the way down. I just wanted to say the offensive staff as a whole have done a good job. You have seen how Tua [Tagovailoa’s] The development has also passed since he has been there and I think I am just excited to be with these guys. “
