NFL Broad Recipient Hunter Renfrow signed with Carolina Panthers Over the weekend and hopes to return to the football field this season after a health diagnosis sidelined him last year.
Renfrow, 29, signed with Panthers on Sunday, in an interview published on the team’s site, Renfrow opened up his former health matches, which held the former Clemson prominent throughout the 2024 season.

“It kicked my ass pretty good,” Said Renfrow, revealing that he was diagnosed with the autoimmune state, ulcerative colitis. “Last year I swung in weight; I went down to 150 pounds. I had like seven equal days on 103-degree fever. It’s hard to play when you’re not feeling well.”

In addition to fever and weight loss, Renfrow also struggled with fatigue.
“It’s just trying to get back and try to get healthy and try to do something I love,” he said of his recovery and training. “I enjoyed other parts of life. We had our other daughter, so I enjoyed it and just wanted to make sure if I want to return and give my time and attention to something that I would be all on it.”

Ulcerous colitis is an “inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and wounds called stomach ulcer, in part of the digestive tract,” according to Mayo Clinic. The symptoms typically develop over time and can sometimes lead to “life -threatening complications.”

Although there is no cure, treatment can greatly reduce the effects of ulcerative colitis.
“It’s a weird feeling. It makes you grateful for the times you’re doing well,” Renfrow said of his health trip. “It makes you grateful for the opportunities you have had and when you want you to be blessed with a certain skill to go out there and do it makes you not waste the opportunity you have. And that was one of the reasons I would return and play.”
Renfrow was prepared by Raiders In the fifth round of 2019 NFL Draft. He retired in 269 receptions for 2,884 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns across five seasons with the organization.

Renfrow joins a stacked recipient room that includes veteran Wideout Adam Thielen and two first round choices, Tetairoa McMillan (2025) and Xavier toy (2024).
“I want to try to be a great teammate and try to go out there and compete with some friends,” Renfrow added. “I haven’t met lots of people here yet, but I can imagine that there are incredible people and an incredible group of guys here that I am excited to compete with.”
