Packers’ official rule change proposal would “ban an offensive player from pushing to a teammate who was set up directly behind the snapper and receiving Snap, immediately at Snap.” The proposal added that a penalty would be assessed on any offensive player who violates the rule.
League staff presented the rule proposals during a football surgery meeting on Sunday, and the question of Packers’ proposal triggered a “heated” discussion, ESPN reported. Packer’s General Manager Brian Gute Art and Head coach Matt Lafleur both refused to talk about it with ESPN.
However, it did not prevent other coaches from discussing it when the meeting came in full gear Monday.
Pittsburgh Steeler’s main coach Mike Tomlin said he was “prejudiced” about getting rid of Tub-Push.

“The first time I saw it, I couldn’t think it was legal because it was illegal in the field goal,” he said via Athletic. “That said, you hate being against it, because when people are innovative, you will respect it.
“There have certainly been some teams that have been more innovative than the rest of us … We hate to punish them for it. But we got into the discussion about the field goal block because of player security, and so it is still part of the discussion.”
Kansas City Chief’s main coach Andy Reid and Buffalo Bill’s main coach Sean McDermott also mentioned the notion of security when it came to the possibility of banning the play, according to Pro Football Talk.
A source contested the security aspect in an interview with ESPN.
“It’s not about player security. It’s just another game and it just looks different,” the source said.
The furor around tush -push escalated under the Eagles’ NFC Championship -Se victory over the Washington commanders.
Commanders players tried to jump offside to try to stop the game from the target line. However, the constant offside sanctions resulted in a warning from NFL officials who said Eagles could have been awarded a score if Washington continued to commit the penalty.
