NHRA star Ron Capps goes away from terrible crash

National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Funny car driver Ron Capps was involved in a scary crash under Arizona Nationals on Sunday.

Capps’ vehicle quickly got out of the starting line and for a moment the top of his car exploded. He cared for across the dividing line and into the left guard wall. Capps were able to get out of his vehicle under its own power.

Nhra said he was examined by the medical team on the spot before being released.

“It was an unfortunate first round and we are grateful that @roncapps28 was able to get out and go away,” Ron Capps Motorsports wrote on X. “@nhra Safety Safari was right there, and the security equipment & chassis did his job.

Capps has 75 wins in a fun car and have made 151 last rounds. He had three wins and was a runner-up four times during the 2023 season. In 2024 he reached the final round of four events, but could not secure a win.

So far this season he reached the final round of Gainesville, Florida, in Amalie Motor Oil Nhra Gatornationals.

Capps ended up in third place in the fun car position last year. He was behind Master Austin Prock and John Force, who suffered his own frightening crash back in June.

Force has been back on the field this season to root for his family members and drivers as he deals with a traumatic brain injury that comes from the crash.
