Nine people have died as a result of heavy monsoon rain that has caused flash floods, landslides and urban floods over Pakistan.
Two children and a woman were killed in Kasur due to electrocution, while other deaths were reported from lightning strikes and floods, Express news reported.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a high alarm for several regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala and parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Heavy rain is expected to continue until July 11, with flash flooding expected in local nullah’s and streams.
The ongoing heavy rainfall has led to serious disturbances in urban areas with low -lying parts of Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala immersed. Traffic in these cities has been severely affected by many roads blocked due to flooding.
The situation is further complicated by the risk of landslide in mountainous areas, especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Balochistan, thunderstorms continue to affect regions such as Zhob and Sibi, while rivers in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have strangled and triggers flood-like conditions.
Although Karachi largely did not affect it, it was easy to moderate rainfall in areas such as Gulhan-E-Hadeed and National Highway, causing minor disturbance.
Authorities have called on residents to avoid traveling in affected areas and remain vigilant.
Rescue teams have been mobilized to help those affected by the floods and the public has been asked to remain indoors where possible.
The government closely monitors the situation that the Monsun season persists with further rainfall expected in the coming days.
