Chakwal:
A passenger bus on Sunday overturned on the M-2 motorway in Chakwal, resulting in deaths of nine passengers and injuries to 31 others. The bus carried more than 40 passengers. The tragic incident took place near the Balkasar exchange at the Dhoke Sial area.
According to eyewitnesses, the passenger bus registration number met YES-6871 trips from Islamabad to Lahore with an accident after one of its Tysres burst due to speed.
The accident was so severe that eight passengers died on the scene and 31 others sustained serious injuries. One of the wounded later succumbed to injuries while moving to the hospital, raising the death toll to nine.
After receiving the emergency call, Rescue 1122 team arrived immediately to the stage, first aid provided the wounded and transferred them to nearby hospitals.
According to rescue officials, the crash was caused by rapid, negligence and carelessness on the part of the driver.
The Chakwal police also reached the place shortly after the accident. According to the police spokesman, they included wounded 17 men and 14 women. Among the deceased were two men, four women, an 8-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl and an 8-month-old infant.
Rescue 1122 Teams from Chakwal moved all wounded individuals and the deceased to Chakwal’s District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) and Trauma Center Kallar Kahar.
Chakwal Deputy Commissioner Madam Sarah Hayat and District Police Officer (DPO) LT (RETD) Ahmad Mohiuddin visited the hospital to ask for the wounded.
DC instructed the hospital staff to ensure the best possible medical treatment. According to the police spokesman, DPO Mohiuddin has formed a special team to arrest the bus driver. Litigation is underway and the police have launched a formal investigation into the incident.
