Karachi:
Police have attacked Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) office and taken nine senior officials in custody for interrogation, including a retired director.
A FIR was officially registered on Wednesday and named Senior SBCA officials and owners of the collapsed building.
After its registration, FIR was formally sealed by police.
The case concerns the collapse of a five-story residential building on Fida Hussain Shaikha Road in the Baghdadi area of Lyari on July 4th.
The tragedy claimed 27 people’s lives and wounded 11 others. The incident triggered indignation and a high -level study of the cause and accountability.
Among the detainees are additional Director -General SBCA Irfan Naqvi, Zargham Shah, retired director Asif Rizvi, Chalis Siddiqui, Ashfaq Khokhar, Deputy Director Faheem Siddiqui, Assisting Director Zulfiqar Shah and Faheem Murtaza.
The owners of the building are also taken into custody.
Sources say that SBCA officials are interrogated by alleged involvement in illegal constructions in Lyari and their failure to prevent structural violations.
Authorities continue the efforts to track and arrest all persons named in FIR.
Governor Sindh begins relief efforts for those affected by the demolition of fallen buildings in Lyari. The Governor’s House has begun to supply daily meals to the affected families.
