- NINKEAR MBOX 8 PRO delivers performance but with unconventional design selection
- Magnetic hard drive Bay raises concern for heat management
- High-end specifications meet unconventional storage in this unique mini-PC
Ninkear Mbox 8 Pro is a modular mini-PC with a removable docking station for a 3.5-inch hard drive that offers expandable storage but raises concerns about its practical, especially compared to the best laptop SSDs.
Per AndroidPC (originally in Spanish) includes the MBOX 8 Pro -Designed a magnetic external hard drive with four USB ports that integrate a traditional hard drive instead of only relying on internal SSD storage that fits the best video editing computers.
However, hard drives generate heat and are more prone to mechanical failure than SSDs, so that the location of one in a closed, magnetic fixed base can affect thermal control, making their integration into a mini -pc that can be debated.
A cool storage experiment
The MBOX 8 Pro stands out for its ability to run three 8K screens via HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB4 Type-C, with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and Dual Gigabit Ethernet.
It has a 4NM AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor, an octa-core APU with 38 Tops AI acceleration, paired with up to 32 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1TB NVME SSD.
Combined with Radeon 780m IGPU delivers this Mini PC performance, which competes with some desktops, handles demanding applications and even 1080p games with ease.
The price for around € 586 gives Ninkear Mbox 8 Pro a unique acquisition of the Mini -PC market, although its unconventional design selection may not fit everyone, especially those that depend on SSDs for speed and stability in video and photo editing of PC work.
