It looks like the new Nintendo Switch 2 Gamecube controller is only compatible with Gamecube games in the online Classics Library.
After months of rumors, Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally revealed its new Gamecube controller and Gamecube collection to Switch Online, arriving with the new console on June 5, 2025.
The playable classics include similar as Wind Waker and Soul Caliber 2But if you expected to be able to use the new Gamecube -Controller with new games that Mario Kart World or Donkey King BananzaIt seems that it will not be possible.
As reported by VGC, the small print sounds at the end of the Switch 2 Gamecube trailer, “The controller is only compatible with Nintendo Gamecube -Nintendo Classics,” apparently confirms that GamePad is not working with other Switch 2 games.
Look at
Although Retro Nintendo controllers were designed to be used for games in their corresponding Switch online library, some may be used to play regular Switch games that NES, SNES and N64 Controllers. However, they may be limited because of their buttons.
It is important to note that Nintendo has offered similar disclaimers of their previous retro controllers, like SNES, but they have proven to be indulgent with other switch games.
We will have to wait and see if this will be the case when the Gamecube controller releases this summer.
