Nintendo has filed a patent for a new Switch 2 Joy-Con attachment that seems to make your controller a fishing roll.
First stained by Nintendo Patents Watch (via polygon), the patent shows two Joy-Con 2-attached files that appear to be a crank and a clickable wheel.
The crank is described as a mounted input device that will use mouse sensors to track movement and magnets to ensure attachment.
The clickable wheel will also use magnets to remain in place and its rotation will be traced by mouse sensors. The attachment also seems to have another button to press the right shoulder of the console (SR).
Presumably this attachment could be used for a series of games with fish mechanics that Animal Crossing: New Horizonsor a potential Kuru Kuru Kururin resuscitation and Playdate Ports that Nintendo patents look at theorized.
A brand new game for Switch 2, which Nintendo has not yet announced, is also an option.
Although the patent application was recently published, it was filed in February 2024, suggesting that Nintendo has been working on the new accessory for some time with Switch 2 compatibility in mind. That said, it’s worth remembering that not all patents see the light of day as an official product.
In case you missed it, the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase for August 2025 was the marmalade with messages. While there was no one Hollow Knight: Silksong News that were lots of other indie -revelations including a new game from Shovel Knight Creators, more titles in Metroidvania style and more.
