NIRC, ILO will hold Landmark Labor Day Conference tomorrow

Islamabad: In connection with the International Labor Day 2025, the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) is in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) set to host a landmark International Conference on May 1 (Tomorrow) in Islamabad.

The event, held in Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), is the theme “Harmony with Change” with the aim of promoting dialogue and consultation on workers’ rights, industrial harmony and legislation in line with international standards in Pakistan.

This will be the first major national conference organized by NIRC since 1969. The high-profile collection will include federal ministers, honorary judges from the Supreme Court and high courts, union leaders, industrialists, legal experts and senior ILO representatives.

The conference inaugurates and chairman of NIRC chairman Justice (RETD) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui. According to his main address, the famous lawyer -belister Zafarullah Khan will talk about “Rights and Responsibility for Employers in Islam”.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail from the Supreme Court will give a special address on “the role of the Pakistani court in the protection of labor rights.”

Several technical sessions are also held during the conference. The first session, entitled “Industrial Harmony and Social Dialogue”, will be chairman of former Supreme Court Judge Justice (R) Khalilur Rehman Ramday.

Panelists will include Muhammad Asim Kichhi, CEO of Associated Press of Pakistan (App); Tahir Yaqub Bhatti, President of Zarai Taraqiati Bank; Shoaib Adil, additional Secretary of Pakistan Railways; Faisal Nisar Chaudhry, CEO of Utility Stores Corporation; Mir Ibrahim Rahman, CEO of Pakinomist TV; and Siraj Hussain, director of Unilever Pakistan.

The Labor Union leaders will also participate in the panel discussion. The session will be moderated by Salman Mansoor Siddiqui, Secretary General of the Supreme Court Lawyers’ Association.

The second session, led by the federal minister of overseas Pakistanis and the development of human resources Chaudhry Salik Hussain, will focus on “Complaints of appeal under the Industrial Connection Act 2012” and “Pakistan’s obligation to ILO conventions.”

Attorney Imran Shafiq joins as a broker, while the Labor Expert IFTIKHAR Ahmed and Lahore High Court’s Justice Jawad Hassan will present their perspectives.

In the final session, the Federal Minister of Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will give a talk about “efforts to adapt existing laws in Pakistan with international work stands.”

Ilo Pakistan Country Director Geir Tonstol delivers a main address of “The Future of Work.” The conference concludes with the presentation of honorary screens for distinguished guests, followed by a lunch for all participants.

Siddiqui, which describes the event as a milestone for labor rights and industrial harmony, said: “We are not just a slogan 2025; it is a vision that is rooted in dialogue, respect and partnership against a better future.”
