- A report claims that a Resident Evil 5 the remake may be revealed tomorrow
- Its proof is a “new” ESRB rating for an Xbox Series X and Series S version of the game
- However, the assessment is not actually new, so a disclosure seems unlikely
Rumors are swirling ahead of the upcoming PlayStation State of Play live stream, with some claiming that a Resident Evil 5 replay may be on the cards.
The proof, according to Kotaku, is a “new” listing on the ESRB website with an age rating for an Xbox Series X and Series S version of the game, which appears to align with tomorrow’s event.
The problem? This listing is actually not new, and checking the snapshots on the Internet Archive reveals that it has been live since as early as last February.
There is also the fact that there are more Resident Evil games listed as unreleased Xbox Series X and Series S releases conveniently left out of the report. This includes Resident Evil Revelations, Revelations 2, and 6.
Presumably Capcom isn’t preparing to reveal remakes of all these games at once tomorrow.
The prospect of a Resident Evil 5 replay reveal goes against the claims of a reliable Resident Evil delicious too, who says so Code: Veronica will be the next game to receive the replay treatment.
It also doesn’t really make much sense given the impending release of Resident Evil Requiem. It’s simply not plausible that Capcom would want to reveal a new remake so close to the launch of the next flagship and potentially affect sales.
Of course, there is still a small chance that one will be shown despite all this – but I wouldn’t bet money on it. We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow.
