No investment in the middle of chaos, warns abbasi

Karachi:

Awaam Pakistan Party (App) Chief Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Thursday that no country could attract investment in the midst of political chaos and in the absence of the rule of law and emphasized that no improvement should be expected until the country was ruled under the Constitution.

Abbasi, who spoke on the ‘Meet the Press’ program at Karachi Press Club (KPC), condemned India’s actions after Pahagam attacks, especially the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. “No one could be allowed to stop water. We have to become a nation and confront the Indian aggression,” he said.

The former Prime Minister expanded on more issues facing the country – from channels controversy to the law and the order situation – and criticized the performance of the federal government. He also talked about the delivery of infrastructure and services in Karachi.

“Karachi is the jugular vein in Pakistan, if this does not work, Pakistan will not work,” Abbasi, who served as prime minister for the year in 2017-18, told journalists. “The conditions that will be in Karachi will be the same in the whole of Pakistan.”

He said that 70 of the people of Karachi did not have access to wiring water. “Where in the world is delivered through tankers. This means that the required amount of water is available, but the people are deprived of tap water facility,” he said.

In the Canals question, he said that they issued should have been raised in the Senate and the National Assembly. “Sindh is in protest today, which will affect the whole country.” In Balochistan, he said the solution to its problem would only be found through conversations and listen to its people’s concerns.

Abbasi said that everywhere in the laws of the world was passed for media freedom, therefore “today is not time to limit the media” by resorting to legislation. “Today, new provinces are needed. Reforms are needed, but unfortunately no reforms were discussed.
