- Hi Play ‘ No man’s sky launched on Nintendo Switch 2 with the new Beacon content update and transverse functionality
- Like previous updates, it will be free for existing owners without a paid upgrade path
- It is an example of why cross -saving is important for other game developers to include in games
Nintendo Switch 2’s launch is now only a few hours away, along with a handful of launch titles – and one of them comes with lots of benefits for players at no extra cost.
Hi Games has announced one No man’s sky Switch 2 Edition launch with its new Beacon content update with full multiplayer, improved image speeds including 4K texture support and perhaps most importantly, cross-saving and cross-play functionality. Everyone will be free of existing Switch 1 No man’s sky Owners when launched on June 5th.
It’s great for fans to see the improved image speeds and 4K resolution, especially based on the expectations set for a number of the console’s games. It is also worth noting that the Switch 1 port did not have full multiplayer, which will now be possible thanks to Switch 2’s extra horsepower. However, another large highlight is the inclusion of cross -cutting rescue and transverse games from day one.
Cross -saving has been available in No man’s sky For all platforms for some time, but with Switch 2’s launch you can download exactly where you have turned off. We do not often see cross-gem cluttering in other Triple A games at the launch or even at all (in both multiplayer and single-player titles), and fortunately indie developer Hello Games has considered it.
It is a testimony to how considerate the game developer has been in the last few years, especially with his Beacon update that joins the huge list of free content released and fans will undoubtedly hope that Goodwill will continue – and push other game developers to do the same.
Analysis: Switch 2 is an example of why we need more transverse games
It is a massive feat for Hello Games to go full throttle with Switch 2 port, especially with all improvements that come without the need for a paid upgrade path. It is also another reason to emphasize that not enough games have cross -border support, from console to PC and vice versa.
I welcome developers like Larian Studios with Baldur’s Gate 3CD project red with The Witcher 3: Wild Huntand Cyberpunk 2077, But I think there’s more room for this to be a regular event. It’s worth noting that I’m not just talking about cross-saving on the same platform as Switch 1 for Switch 2, but rather including all consoles and PC-You get the idea.
It’s a dealbreaker for me when I decide whether to buy a PC port with Sony’s PlayStation titles, especially when I already own the title of PS5 -and a good example is Stellar leavesLaunch at Steam on June 11 without transverse functionality.
A decent part of the games that come to Switch 2 at launch are games that have already been launched on other platforms and that players buying Switch 2 have already made progress – for example Capcoms Street Fighter 6 or IO Interactive’s Hitman World of Assassinationboth of which do not support cross -progression. So simply it is not only a PC problem, but also all platforms that need this support.
