The National Assembly’s speeches Ayaz Sadiq said Tuesday that a visitor delegation of US lawmakers had not mentioned any imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Foundation Chairman Imran Khan during their recent engagements in Islamabad.
In a statement, Sadiq said the congressional delegation, which held a number of meetings with government officials and politicians on the sidelines of Pakistan Minerals Forum 2025, made it clear that they had no interest or role in Pakistan’s internal political affairs.
His remarks came in response to PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who claimed that leaders of his party were deliberately excluded from official interactions with the delegation. Gohar claimed he was not notified of any meetings and did not receive any formal or informal invitation.
By rejecting the claim, Sadiq said that Gohar and PTI chef Amir Dogar were both invited to a dinner hosting the American delegation but chose not to attend. “It was an opportunity for PTI leaders to talk directly to the Americans – the same people they often appeal to in support,” he said.
The speaker said other PTI leaders, including Atif Khan and Dr. Amjad, attended the meeting and afterwards confirmed that no discussions were held about Imran Khan’s legal situation or his potential release.
Atif Khan said he was not aware of whether Gohar or other senior PTI numbers had received invitations, adding that representatives from several political parties and federal ministers participated.
Sadiq also said that leaders from the reigning coalition partner, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), had used the meeting to raise concern for channel -related questions in Sindh and Punjab. “Thirty people talked about channels, but the opposition missed his chance to bring out his points,” he added.
The speaker noted that when PPP made a decision on the question in parliament, he had reminded them that it had already been discussed and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had issued a statement relating to the case.
Sadiq continued to criticize the opposition’s handling of parliamentary procedure and said the legislation was delayed due to a lack of decision-making and non-participation.
“Production orders were issued, prisons declared as sub -subjects, and all procedures were documented and available online,” he said.
Sadiq reiterated his commitment to dialogue, shared Sadiq that he was in contact with Balochistan National Party-Mengal (GDP-M) Chief Akhtar Mengal and Jamiat Urvili-e-Islam-Fazl (Jui-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman to explore ways to improve the collaboration. “I believe in the opposition, but no one can be forced into conversations,” he added.
He said that a decision had also been made that no legislature would be allowed to point out Quorum during the question, and warned that if a trust movement was not tried, it could destabilize the opposition itself.
Meanwhile, PTIS Senate’s opposition leader Syed Shibli Faraz Sadiq criticized the heads of opposition parties in both parliamentary houses, while other members attended the meetings.
