Islamabad:
Foreign Office’s spokesman Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan highlighted the growing diplomatic profile of the International and Regional forums on Friday, including its assumption of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Presidency, participation in the 17th Eco summit and ongoing efforts to humanitarian and legal responsibility in the region.
In a comprehensive weekly news briefing, the spokesman emphasized, “Pakistan assumes the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council in July with a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. Our approach will remain anchored in the principles of the UN -Charter, Multilateralism and International Law.”
The spokesman announced that Pakistan will convene two high-level signature events, including an open debate on “Promoting International Peace and Security through multilateralism and the peaceful settlement of disputes” on July 22, and a briefing on “UN collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)” on July 24.
In addition, Pakistan Presators for the quarterly quarterly debate on the issue of Palestine on July 23, everything led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, he added.
“These meetings reflect Pakistan’s intention of acting as a bridge between the council and the wider UN membership,” the spokesman added.
In comments on any trilateral collaboration with China and Bangladesh, the spokesman described it as routine and focused on regional development, while rejecting reports of a SAARC alternative as speculative.
The visit of Pakistani military officials in Bangladesh, including Rohingya areas, he said, was characterized as part of the ongoing cooperation without a change in Pakistan’s policy for Rohingya Muslims.
He confirmed that Pakistan did not form any military alliance with other regional countries, including China, Russia, Türkiye, Bangladesh or Afghanistan.
The spokesman rejected speculation that Pakistan joined the Abraham agreements, confirming his unwavering support for a two-state solution and full Palestinian state.
He mentioned that Pakistan expressed disappointment that the SaARC summit was stopped by a member. Islamabad confirmed his commitment to SaARC and Preparedness to host the next Summit, he added.
The spokesman also greeted a supplementary award issued on June 27 by the Court of Arbitration in Kis -Ganga and Ratle Hydroelectric Dispute between Pakistan and India.
“The court confirmed its competence to continue the procedure despite India’s unilateral attempt to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in accordance. This award justifies Pakistan’s legal and moral attitude,” he said. “We urge India to resume normal functioning under the Treaty and fully honor its international obligations.”
He said Pakistan rejected India’s denial of the supplementary award of permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), calling New Delhi’s attitude “illegal” and lacking legitimacy under international law.
The spokesman emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty remains operational and that the award confirms Pakistan’s attitude. Whether a formal communication has been made to India, Ambassador Khan noted that technical questions were handled by the Ministry of Water.
