The first five minutes of Stranger Things season five digitally neutered Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, who runs for shelter in the Upside Down.
But before him, his co-star Millie Bobby Brown had shot in similar settings for his character’s eleven flashback scenes in Season 4.
Now in an interview with DeadlineNoah remembers asking his co-star for help when, like him, she also used a body double to show past events.
I asked [Millie] for help, honestly. I thought, ‘How did you work with the child when you had to do that?’ It was fun to step into the director’s shoes, which we don’t really get the chance to do on the show.”
He continues, “And think introspectively and reflectively about how I acted and how I acted and moved and breathed and turned and looked and kind of relayed that to this little kid who was so sweet.”
“It was a fun experience. It looks a little digital. It’s hard to get it to look perfect, but it turned out pretty well.”
Similarly, Millie weighs in on her process of being digitally emasculated, recalling, “I was able to direct her for a couple of episodes. It’s really interesting because [it] taught me a lot about what I was doing. I was like, ‘Yeah, how did I do that, why did I do that? Okay?'”
“I was like, ‘Wow.’ I just screamed and threw my hand out without any sense of embarrassment. And it’s so interesting. 10 years ago, social media wasn’t a thing. It wasn’t what it is 1763849250 at all.”
“I posted pictures of my dog and I had about 25 followers. It’s interesting, that sense of humility you really have to leave at the door.”
Stranger Things season five, vol. 1, drops on November 26.
