Islamabad:
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJ) Yahya Afridi has declared that high courts are autonomous institutions and that it is not appropriate for the supreme court to interfere in their affairs.
Justice Afridi made this comment Thursday during a meeting with a delegation from District Bar Associations of Multan and Jhang in Islamabad.
According to the official statement issued after the meeting, Chief Justice welcomed the delegation, which highlighted questions related to the lack of communication and coordination between Lahore High Court (LHC) and bar associations in Punjab.
Justice Afridi clarified that high courts are independent institutions and that it would not be appropriate to interfere in their affairs. However, he suggested that the case could be discussed with Chief Justice of the LHC, Justice Aalia Neelum.
CJ discussed the representation of bar councils in the Law and Justice Commission in Pakistan. He also informed the delegation of the upcoming meeting of the Commission.
He also informed the delegation of the educational programs conducted under the Federal Judicial Academy, where he said that details of these programs are available on the Academy’s website.
CJ also provided information on access to the Justice Development Fund and urged bare -wing members to seek help during this initiative.
During the meeting, the delegation extended an invitation to Chief Justice to visit district bars.
