- Some HP -laser printers are blocked after a firmware update
- Affected models include laser chief MFP M232-M237
- HP says it is aware of a “limited” problem
Already in trouble blocking or reducing the performance of third-party ink cartridges, HP has now been accused of blocking legitimate HP mark tones in some laser printer models.
Firmware version 20250209, released on March 4, now appears to cause problems for owners of the LaserJet MFP M232-M237 models.
According to Ars Technicathe update was only intended to tackle “security updates”, a “regulatory claim update”, “General improvements and bug fixes.”
HP blocks its own ink?
Users at HPS Support Forum have reported to see error code 11 and flashing toner light after the update, preventing them from being able to print.
One wrote: “I installed this toner cartridge about a month ago without any problems. But today an error code 11 appeared, which means the printer does not accept / recognize the cartridge anymore. “
Furthermore, basic troubleshooting measures such as cleaning the contacts and reinstalling the tone do not seem to solve the problem.
Although the company is already tied up with dodgy firmware updates that affect print quality and performance with certain ink, it seems that this may not be a case of intended consequences. The company shared with Techradar Pro:
“We are aware of a firmware problem that affects a limited number of HP Laserjet 200 series and our team is actively working on a solution. For help, affected customers can contact our support team at: https://support.hp.com. “
HP aside is a busy week for printers where brother was recently accused of throttling certain devices with firmware updates in a similar way as HP – something that the company has actually refused to do. Brother blamed partially reduced performance on third -party ink quality, but said that requirements for firmWar power were “false.”
Techradar Pro Have asked HP for an update on the situation but we have not received an answer.
