Islamabad: A crucial meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, began on Monday to assess the developing regional security situation, sources said.

High -level session participates in the heads of Pakistan’s armed forces, important federal ministers and senior officials dealing with national defense and diplomacy, the sources of Pakinomist News.

The sources said the primary agenda of the meeting is to review the consequences of the ongoing Israeli Iranian war, especially how it can affect the wider region.

The discussion is expected to cover the recent US missile and bunker-buster attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and the potential consequences of the escalating conflict for regional peace and stability.

The session comes as the United States has entered the Middle East conflict by launching direct strikes on Iran.

Donald Trump administration used bunker-buster bombs and missiles to target three nuclear facilities located in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan in Iran.

Pakistan condemned in response the strikes ordered to Iran by US President Trump, saying that the decision to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities violated international law and that diplomacy was the only way to resolve the crisis.

“The unprecedented escalation of tension and violence due to the ongoing aggression against Iran is deeply disturbing. Any further escalation of tensions will have severe harmful consequences for the region and beyond,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

NSC Huddle comes hours after Pakistan joined China and Russia in circulating a draft decision that requires an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” during a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting.

The resolution calls on “all parties to refrain from further escalation; requires the urgent protection of civilian and civilian infrastructures and supports a diplomatic path forward on the Iranian nuclear issues acceptable to all parties”.

When he spoke at UNSC Huddle, Pakistan’s permanent representative of the UN ASIM ITIKHAR urged the most important UN body to “promote urgent use of dialogue and diplomacy” and called on all parties to comply with the international law to find a peaceful and lasting decision on the Iranian nuclear question.
