- Legislators claim Futurewei, a US-based R&D company, is actually a Huawei-subsidiary and shared office space with Nvidia for over a decade
- They claim that this co-location gave Futurewei access to sensitive US semiconductor and AI technologies, and cite past events with misleading behavior
- Officials require documents about FutureWei’s ties to Huawei and its choice of office location, while Nvidia insists its operations remain isolated
An alleged Huawei subsidiary in the United States is at the center of espionage conversations again when the news emerged that it shared a building with Nvidia.
Bloomberg Requires two US legislators – Republican President John Mojenaar and Democratic Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi from House Select Committee on China, sent a letter to Futurewei – a research and development company that focused on promoting information and communication technology (ICT).
The Futurewei was founded in 2001 in Santa Clara, California, and has about 400 employees. Officially, it is a US-based R&D company, but in the letter, the two legislators said it was actually a subsidiary of Huawei, quoting an archiving document in May 2025.
Huawei, FutureWei and Blacklists
They also asked Futurewei to explain why it shared buildings with Nvidia and claimed it continued for at least a decade. They also argued that Futurewei had the primary lease on three buildings on site before Nvidia took over in 2024.
“This co-location gave Futurewei unprecedented access to America’s most advanced semiconductor and AI capabilities,” the letter reads. They also emphasized that Futurewei’s employees were on a Facebook summit in 2018, despite Huawei being banned from it, by getting employees to register under fake US companies.
The legislators are now asking Futurewei to hand over all papers related to its Huawei tape, as well as to provide documents related to how the company ended up picking up the exact place for its offices.
At the same time, Nvidia told the publication that it essentially does not matter who is next to: “Even where we have neighbors, we maintain a separate campus in Nvidia.”
Huawei was famous blacklisted in the United States during the first Trump’s presidential term. At that time, the United States built its 5G infrastructure, and the Trump administration claimed Huawei could be pressed by the Chinese government to install back doors and enable Cyber espionage. Huawei as well as the Chinese government denied these accusations as completely baseless.
