A new rumor suggests that AMD is preparing to launch its Radeon RX 9000 series of flagship graphics cards with an “aggressive” price to compete with Archpival Nvidia.
As WCCFTECH reports, while AMD has not yet revealed its price plans for its upcoming RDNA 4 graphics cards, a leak suggests on the home cause Team Green some real headaches.
The rumor also suggests that this pricing may even affect the sale of the older Radeon RX 7800 XT.
The cost of war
AMD launched Radeon RX 7800 XT in 2023 for $ 499.99 (approximately £ 380/AU $ 725), so the delicious comments suggest that the new Radeon RX 9070 series of GPUs will be launched for about $ 500 – $ 600.
This will put them in direct competition with the upcoming GeForce RTX 5070 and 5070 ten from Nvidia, which will be launched this month for $ 549 (£ 549 / AU $ 1,509) and $ 749 (£ 749 / AU $ 1,109). A new leak suggests that 5070 ten could be launched on February 20th.
It is expected that AMD’s upcoming RX 9070 XT will match the RTX 5070 Ti when it comes to performance – if it turns out correct and it costs significantly less, Nvidia could finally have a real match on her hands.
It’s no secret that AMDS GPUs are much less popular than Nvidias (you only need to look at the latest steam hardware survey to see how much Team Green dominates the graphics card market for players), but the company has a unique opportunity for right now for to take a decent part of the market from Nvidia.
Hype is steadily building for AMD’s upcoming GPUs, and benchmark results that are apparently early leaks are promising. If AMD nails the price, it can be with a real shot to make Nvidia’s life a little more difficult.
Nvidia’s launch of RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 gives another opportunity for AMD to win over customers. Not because it’s bad GPUs-long from it-but because since their launch they have been all together-but impossible to get hold of when the stock was sold out quickly.
Of course, it’s good news for Nvidia, but that means AMD could be tempted frustrated PC players to pick up one of its new GPUs instead of waiting for more stock of Nvidia’s cards.
We will have to wait and see if AMD manages to take advantage of these options or not.
