“on the prowl”? Maybe it was something to do with hits from Sly & The Family Stone? Except I couldn’t think of any of their hits beyond Family matterso it was quickly ruled out.
A hint gave me WILY, and then I linked LIKEA, but instead of going for FOX, I meandered to SHREW — “like a shrew” almost sounded like a spangram, but after getting SHREWD, I realized I’d missed LIKEAFOX.
From here the board opened up and I was able to complete the game – but I will say that my plodding gameplay today definitely lacked SNID.

What is NYT Strands?
Strands is the NYT’s not-so-new-anymore word game, following Wordle and Connections. It’s now a full-fledged member of NYT’s game stable that’s been running for a year and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
