Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Sayin was more consistent in the competition with Lincoln Kienholz and that there had been some separation between the two players in the last week.
“It was a close competition. I think both guys we all feel sure can win a game for us. I feel like our guys are sure of both quarterbacks, I feel we need both quarterbacks,” Day told journalists. “Lincoln did a lot of good things, but we want to name the Julian starter, give him most of the reps with them and go preparing to beat Texas.”
Sayin is listed as another but has four years of eligibility back.
He transferred to Ohio State from Alabama in January 2024.

“I think that earning trust is just about consistency, who are you day out and day out and do you get routine player routinely. Are you someone who the offense can trust and who your teammates can trust consistently?” Sayin said back on August 5th.
He was a five -star view that was the top quarterback in his recruitment class. He was a star player at Carlsbad High School in California.
Texa’s head coach Steve Sarkisian also had good things to say about Sayin.
“We recruited him hard here. He was a very gifted passerby, really good player. Come to camp with us, I think, two years in a row. So we got a lot of familiarity with him,” Sarkisian said. “Very good player, elite fits, very good arm talent, very quick release, really accurate guy. Obviously he has big weapons around him, so he is the type of guy who can use these weapons in a good system. So it poses a heck of a challenge.”

Ohio State also brings broad recipients back Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate to the offense. Sayin wants lots of weapons to succeed right away.
