Oklahoma Soner’s wide receiver Keontz Lewis left Saturday’s match against Kent State early after suffering a daunting injury while trying to get a catch.
Lewis tried to track a ball from Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr., who was thrown over his head in the first quarter. He was on the back of the final zone when he caught it, but fell and crashed his head into the wall wall that made the final zone at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
On Tuesday, Oklahoma confirmed plans to install padding around the wall wall.
Oklahoma coach Brent Venables said the details are not yet clear.

“I don’t know exactly when or how much and all this,” Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables told journalists on Tuesday. “But I think they will put some padding around the brick area where we are vulnerable.”

As it stands, most of the wall surrounding the field is not padded – including areas that are very close to the borders.
Lewis was short moving and was wagered off after being complied with for about 10 minutes on the last Saturday. The Soners continued to defeat Kent State 44-0.

During his weekly radio program, Venables shared an encouraging update on Lewis’ recovery.
“I was scared because it didn’t look good at all,” said Venables. “Really lucky, all that considered – very lucky. He is in a big mood and feels much better. Remarkable, really not even a scratch.”
