Olivia Rodrigo has announced her first new music in almost two years and reveals that her new single Drop Dead will be released on April 17.
The singer shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday alongside a photo of herself blowing a bubble with bubblegum, the single’s title embroidered on her shirt.
The track will be the first taste of her upcoming third album, You seem pretty sad for a girl who is so in lovewhich will be released on June 12.
Rodrigo recorded the album with producer Dan Nigro, her collaborator on both debut albums Sad and its follow-up Guts.
Details about the project have been largely kept under wraps, but she did offer some insight into its vibe in a recent interview British Vogue cover story describing it as full of “sad love songs”.
Writing from a happy place, she admitted, was a real creative challenge.
“When you feel connected to someone, or feel really good, you don’t think of bittersweet poems in your head!” she said.
Rodrigo also reflected on what love reveals about a person.
“You get to the heart of all your problems: how you feel about yourself, your insecurities, what makes you happy,” she said.
“It feels like the rawest form of you, which is so terrifying and terrifying and uncomfortable, sometimes, but beautiful at times.”
