- OnePlus is looking for FDA -Authorization to its sleep apnea -detection function
- OnePlus Watch 3 launched without FDA Certification for its ECG Function
- Without FDA -Authorization, these features are useless in the United States
OnePlus hopes OnePlus Watch 3 could get the FDA approval for its new function of sleep apnea, bringing it one step closer to competing with the best Apple Watches.
We’ve tested the OnePlus Watch 3 all week and it’s a power center for a watch. With five days (120 hours) battery life, sophisticated health tracking and all the Wear OS 5’s smarts and third-party apps on its metaphorical fingertips, it looks like it will end on our best Android watch list.
However, an area where it cannot compete with Apple’s watches is its functions’ approval of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). With FDA certification seen as the Gold Standard for Health-Based Features, the OnePlus Watch 3S ECG feature could not receive this certification in time for launch, leaving the useless for potential US users.
In order not to be discouraged, the OnePlus FDA legislative approval of another feature, Sleep Apnea detection, is searching first identified by waring during an interview with OnePlus’ Dr. Leo Zhang, head of research and development. Sleep Apnea is one of the features that is scanned as part of the OnePlus Watch 3S 60-second health check-in function along with snoring detection, oxygen saturation and other night times.
During the Apple Watch Series 10 launch in September 2024, Apple made a lot of its new feature of breathing disorders, which tell users that they may experience signs of sleep apnea and recommend that they check in with a medical professional. The feature was FDA-approved days after the unit’s launch.
OnePlus has a significant advantage over Apple in terms of sleep tracking and it is battery life. Compared to Apple Watch’s lean 18 hours, OnePlus’ 120-hour Behemoth can go from day to night at no charge in between. Apple gets a quick charge, but if you forget to charge it, you’re still probably back with a dead clock in the morning.
Adding an FDA-approved sleep apnea detection feature could be an important Kudos for OnePlus self-gap between Android and the best watches to iPhone, this is unlikely to be the decisive factor for users who want to change operating systems.
