Only State can advertise Jihad: DG ISPR

The military’s top spokesman, LT Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has said that only the state is authorized to advertise jihad against an aggressor and not any person or group.

LT Gen Chaudhry, who has been on an official visit to Karachi, expressed these views on Sunday during his meetings with people from different walks of life.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General, Pakistani citizens belonging to different religions, enjoy equal rights under the Constitution. He said that unity could only be secured through peace and equality.

“Departments based on race or language can be condemned. All citizens of Pakistan are equal. No one can defeat us if we are united,” he added.

The military spokesman spoke with reference to the recent conflict between Pakistan and India.

The two nearby nations last month engaged in a short but dangerous confrontation, weeks after a militant attack in the Pahagam area of the Indian occupied Kashmir.

During the four days of active conflict initiated by India, both countries launched missile attacks on each other’s territory, while also performing drone and cyberattacks. The conflict suddenly ended after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire, apparently at the request of New Delhi.

DG ISPR declared that India supports terrorist groups in Pakistan and that the Pakistani army responds to this threat by using a modern war strategy.

Pakistan has accused India of having drawn terrorism on his land, especially in Balochistan, which has been exposed to a low key uprising in the past two decades.

During his visit, the ISPR chief was awarded a warm welcome in the country’s financial hub.
