- Oppo has announced the new Reno 13 series of midrange handset
- Reno 13 Pro has a 3.5x telecamera and IP68 / IP69 water and dust resistance
- Oppo seems to suggest a combination of these new features with a new underwater photography mode
Like our Oppo Reno 12 Pro review information, a telecommunications lens is a rare and valuable addition to an intermediate handset. Oppo Reno 13 Pro is equipped with a 3.5x Tele camera that almost doubles the optical zoom range of its predecessor, Oppo Reno 12 Pro.
As far as we know, Reno 13 Pro’s 3.5x Snapper Oppo’s latest leading mid-ranger gives more optical zoom range than any other phone at its price.
Telfoto cameras are becoming more common on midrange -hand sets: We recently saw the launch of Nothing Phone 3A and Phone 3A Pro, which have 2x and 3x tele cameras respectively.
50MP 3.5x telefoto camera is together with a 50MP main camera and 8MP ultra-camera, in an arrangement that follows Oppos Track Record to take-let us call it inspiration -From a particular Cupertino-based telephone manufacturer.
Design line aside, Oppo Reno 13 Pro is also evaluated for IP69, and Oppo says the phone is resistant to being submerged in fresh water as well as heated water jets – it’s as waterproof as a phone can come right now.
With these two features – an upgraded camera system and the best possible water resistance – Oppo has done the natural thing and devised a way to get the most out of both at the same time. Reno 13 Pro comes with a new underwater camera mode using the volume to operate the camera when it is submerged.
This new mode allows users to take photos with the volume button and start and stop video with the Volume-Down button, which I have to admit is a reasonably intuitive control scheme-self-idea of jumping in the pool, phone in hand, still freak me out a little.
We have seen phones with IP69 water resistance before, but it is very rare for a telephone manufacturer to actively encourage its users to take a dip with their device – so much less for the sake of a photo session.
Oppo Reno 13 Pro and its two siblings The Oppo Reno 13 and Reno 13F have not yet received a release date or pricing – we update this article when the details are confirmed. For now, be sure to check out our guide to the best Oppo phones and let us know what you think of Reno 13 Pro in the comments.
