Opposition alliance calls on CJP to trade at RS300 billion. Sugar Scandal

Tehreek Tahaffuz-E-AIN has written to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, and urged him to take Suo Motu notification of an alleged sugar industry scandal, where Mills is reportedly taking advantage of RS300 billion due to the recent price fluctuations.

In a letter addressed to CJP, Vice President Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar called on the formation of a commission in accordance with Article 184 (2) of the Constitution.

Khokhar requested that the question be referred to a committee with three members or that the letter is treated as a formal petition to initiate litigation.

“The future of the country’s economic stability and citizens’ confidence in governance is linked to rapid and decisive action,” the letter added.

It also emphasized that the Committee on Public Accounts was informed on Tuesday, July 29, that Sugar Mills had earned RS300 billion through recent rate increases.

CCP relocation hearing

The Competition Commission in Pakistan (CCP) has postponed the consultation of the Sugar Cartel case after over 70 sugar factories requested a delay with reference to the inaccessibility of legal adviser due to the Supreme Court’s summer savings.

In a statement issued on Monday, CCP announced that the consultation is now taking place from 22 to 25 September. The decision follows several depletion rewards submitted by Sugar Mills.

More than 50 Møller has also filed appeals in the Supreme Court, which challenges the court’s decision, which directs CCP to practice the case.

The Commission clarified that the consultation is postponed once to meet the requirements of a fair trial. However, it emphasized that no additional delay or postponement would be assigned.

CCP stated that the case must be completed daily.

Earlier in May, the competition had returned the case to CCP to practice after notifying his verdict on the appeals filed by Sugar Mills and the association against an RS44b fine.

The Court instructed the case to practice under the supervision of the CCP chairman or any other member who was not previously involved in the consultations.

The Court also ordered the Commission to complete the exercise and raise a judgment within 90 days.

In 2021, CCP imposed a fine of RS44 billion.
