Islamabad: Leaders of Tehreek Tahaffuz-Ein Pakistan (TTAP) revealed on Wednesday a nationwide mobilization campaign to defend legal independence and maintain the constitution, in the midst of growing concern over political oppression and erosion of democratic norms.
At a joint press conference after a high -level meeting, Sunni Itthad Council’s SaHibzada Hamid Raza said protests would be staged across the country, including Sindh and Punjab.
He said an All Parties Conference (APC) will be held in Karachi on May 5 and a rally in Hyderabad on May 10th.
Former National Assembly Chairman Asad Qaiser expressed serious concern over the erosion of the court’s independence. “At present, Pakistan’s judiciary is under siege, judges are respected. We want an independent judiciary where judges make decisions about profits,” he said.
His comments come at a time when several judges have reportedly been subjected to pressure and interference, a growing concern among the legal society and civil society.
The prominent lawyer and PTI General Salman Salman Akram Raja called this “a very delicate phase of our history”, which called for true representation in parliament and justice for all provinces.
He specifically referred to complaints in Sindh and Balochistan and said, “The concerns of the people of Sindh and Balochistan must be addressed,” he said. “The country is in a period of oppression and lawlessness,” he added.
Balochistan has long suffered from enforced disappearance and financial emancipation, where local leaders require greater control over the province’s resources.
In SINDH, the recent controversy around water distribution and channel projects has further elaborated resentment, especially among Pakistan Peoples Party leaders accusing the federal government of overreach and inequality.
Ayub, the opposition leader in the National Assembly, paralyzed the reigning coalition over the channel’s dispute and claimed that Sindh’s water was redirected under a backward agreement.
He also condemned the closure of free expression and criticized the government for prioritizing political crashes rather than national security, especially in the light of the Jaffar Express tragedy.
TTAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai demanded accountability from all state institutions, including intelligence agencies. Achakzai urged legislators to keep a trust in the National Assembly’s speeches and boycott what he called “false committees.”
Raja, who spoke at the conference, confirmed the ideological entity between PTI, MWM and other opposition parties.
MWMS Allama Raja Nasir Abbas warned that political instability would continue without constitutional government.
