Despite frequent cancellations of localities, opposition parties managed to convene and end its two-day multi-partic conference on Thursday and called for supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, fresh “fair” elections, release of political prisoners and end to what it calls a government’s crash on the dissent.
The obstacles to holding the opposition parties’ conference faced its first challenge even before the conference could start when the organizers had claimed that the local administration of Twin Cities will not allow them to hold the conference until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was over.
The obstacles continued until the end of the conference, but the blockage could not dampen the opposition. On Thursday, Opposition Alliance-Tehreek-E-Tahaffuz-E-Oyeen-E-Pakistan (TTAP)-with his large conference, some opposition members scaled the gates, while others forced their way into a local hotel after authorities blocked the event.
Despite being denied venues in Twin Cities due to the security arrangements for the cricket tournament earlier, TTAP had promised to hold the conference, what might be. It finally did and held the event in the hotel’s reception area.
Earlier, the newly registered political party, Awam Pakistan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the chairman of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, SaHibzada Hamid Raza from Sunni Itehad Council and opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, Salman, Salman Akram Raja, Salman, Salman Akram Raja, Salman, Salman Akram Raya Secretary, Secretary, Secretary, Secretary, Secretowary, Omaren General, Omar Ayub Khan, Salman Aklam, Secretary, Secretary, Secretary Akram Akram Akram Akram. By Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf, among other things, was stopped from entering the room. Nevertheless, they managed to come in and held the event.
The opposition’s two-day collection, which aimed to tackle alleged constitutional violations, human rights violations and political instability, were damaged by accusations that the government was pushing the site administration to revoke permission to its last session. The government side allegedly denied the accusations.
The conference culminated with a statement that outlined a number of requirements, including supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law as the only solution to Pakistan’s crises.
The TTAP leaders accused the February 8 -choices that they claim to be rigged, for the ruling political, economic and social turmoil.
They further stated that the current parliament lacked moral, political and legal legitimacy. The other requirements included reversing the changes allegedly considered, unlike the Constitution, immediate release of all political prisoners and abolition of the prevention of the electronic crime law (PECA) changes, as opposition leaders claimed, are used to stifle the dissent.
The declaration also emphasized the urgent need to tackle complaints related to the distribution of water resources among the federal units during the 1991 water decision, warning that a failure to do so could aggravate instability.
The opposition leaders emphasized that Pakistan’s improvement is related to free, transparent and fair choices. They also called for a unified national strategy to stabilize the country and obliged to an ongoing battle until their demands are met.
The opposition promised to continue its collective political efforts and argue that only compliance with constitutional principles can control Pakistan out of his current crisis.
In their speeches, the opposition leaders jumped out against the government and its policies, saying that the ruling alliance allegedly lacked public mandate, which is why the country did not move on.
Na opposition leader Omar Ayub said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi should give the “Duffer Award” to the person who suggested them the opposition should be denied conference.
Ayub said the country cannot move forward by publishing ads in newspapers. He said the opposition was gathered for supremacy of the Constitution and ensuring that the rule of law prevails in the country.
Awam Pakistan Secretary -General Miftah Ismail said it is not politics where only one’s family members become a premier or have key positions, saying that the government did not comply with the law and the constitution and assembly are flooded with people elected via Form 47.
Ismail, who had served as finance minister under the PML-N government, said that instability will prevail as long as the political standoff continues. He questioned the authorities’ steps in blocking 100 or more people to discuss key questions in a closed door room and said, so they ask why people are protesting.
PTI General Salman Salman Akram Raja said that different parties continued to come to power with the help of powerful quarters and said that many mistakes were committed in the past, but let’s not fall into the past now and move on to tackle the challenges. Raja said the holiness of home was violated and said this was not politics but a matter of decency.
On February 8, he reiterated that people’s rights were deprived of and warned that the government cannot run like that. He urged people to come out and said that if we travel our voices together, there will be no obstacle. He guaranteed that the prison PTI founder Imran Khan will not beat anyone to get out and said if he would go abroad, he could have used the opportunity a long time ago.
Achakzai said the prime minister and the Minister of the Interior should be booked in connection with November 26, and added that security forces should work within a framework that is followed worldwide. He urged the political parties to promise that they would stop seeking powerful stakeholders’ help to create space.
Achakzai said the opposition will make their own assembly, whose speeches will be PTI leader Asad Qaiser, saying that if the established assembly ends their membership, they would challenge such decisions for the courts. He said there will be no conversations with the government, saying that lectures will only be held with the establishment and that it is also to give them a safe passage to stop interfering in politics. He said the only way to save the country was to secure supremacy in the constitution.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said PTI has been exposed to what the opposition management was facing while he entered the hotel on Thursday. He demanded snap polls and said that a government’s tenure is five years, but fresh elections can be held in view of the country’s prevailing situation. He called for it to be time to stand on the right side of the story.
Gohar said Imran Khan believes in public power, which is why he was in prison. He recalled that PTI was not allowed to hold conventions during the parliamentary elections. At the moment, former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said there was no such thing as a constitution in the country, saying that the citizens’ contract with the state has ended and freedom of expression has been abolished after the PECA changes.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch said we must decide that the constitution must be maintained with all power, adding that we must fight for the independence of the court and the democratic strength must refuse to become a tool for the establishment.
Jui-F’s Senator Kamran Murtaza said the government helped make the conference successful by blocking access and refusing venues. He reportedly clarified that Jui-F was not a signer of the opposition party’s statement as the party only attended the conference as an observer.
