HAFIZABAD:
The case of rape has taken another reversal when another suspect, identified as Laeq, was killed in an alleged police meeting near Kot Nanak Village on Friday.
Meanwhile, two police officers have been arrested for allegedly accepting bribes to facilitate Laeq’s previous release from custody.
Police sources said the officers of the Kassoki police station were on routine patrol when their vehicle came under fire from three to four armed men near Kot Nanak.
Police turned back fire in self -defense. During the exchange, an attacking agent was deadly shot – allegedly by shots from his own accomplices who managed to escape. The deceased was later identified as Laeq, one of the suspects in the gang rape of a woman in front of her husband.
Laeq’s body was moved to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy, and police have registered a case against the unidentified attackers for assaulting law enforcement staff. This development follows the death of another accused, Khawar, in a similar meeting only a day earlier.
Despite these operations, two main suspects – Ikram Mangat and Chand Mangat – remain largely.
Legal Inspector Muneeb Mangat, published at the District Police Officer (DPO) office, and Kashif Warraich, responsible for Hameed Pura Police Check Post, has been indicted to accept the bribery of RS140,000 in exchange for facilitating Laeq’s escape from legal custody.
