Ottawa Senators Fans Boo US National Anthem After Trump Issuing Customs Rates

When Canadian and American teams face each other, it is common for both countries’ national hymns to be played or performed.

That was the case in the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa when the Minnesota Wild visited the senators for an NHL match.

The visiting team’s anthem is usually performed first, as was the case on Saturday night.

But before the home crowd heard its own anthem, they let the boos out at the end of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The game came the same day as President Donald Trump signed an executive order that comes into effect Tuesday, consisting of a 25% extra duty on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% duty on imports from China.

Energy resources from Canada will have a lower duty of 10%, according to the White House. In a statement obtained by Pakinomist on Saturday, the Trump administration said the order is an answer to an “extraordinary threat that illegal aliens and drugs make up, including deadly fentanyl, (at) constitutes a national emergency.”

At the forefront of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation, Trump said he would “love” if Canada could become the “51st state.”

On their four-game homestand wrapped after their TK victory, the senators hosted all US teams are seven Canadian teams in the National Hockey League and 25 teams based in the states.

The senators start a four-game US Road Trip against Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning (two matches) and Florida Panthers before returning home on February 22 to host Montreal Canadiens.

The long layover comes because of the next 4 Nations tournament with the US, Canada, Finland and Sweden.
