Over 47,000 police personnel will be deployed across Punjab during Eidul Fitr holdays to ensure security, provincial police said Sunday.
Eidul Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, is expected to take place Monday, subject to the Moon’s vision.
The three-day holiday is celebrated with large gatherings, and while attacks under Eid are rare, in recent months have seen an increase in militant violence in Pakistan’s western provinces, especially along the Afghanistan border.
“More than 47,000 officers and staff will be deployed to over 29,000 EID collections all over the province,” said Punjab police on social media platform X. “Mosques, Imambargahs, markets and important locations will be continuously monitored by CCTV cameras.”
In addition, over 21,000 officers, including women, will be stationed in markets and key spaces on the eve of Eid.
The Punjab police added that regional police officers and district policemen would oversee security operations throughout the holidays and a strict act would be taken against the harassing women or families. “The unicorn, air firing, hooliganism and dragons are prohibited,” they warned.
In the capital, the Islamabad police will deploy more than 3,500 employees to secure the city, with over 500 traffic officials assigned to ensure a smooth flow during the festivities.
