PAIGE BUECKERS finally captures the national title as Uconn routes South Carolina

Uconn’s woman’s basketball program is just where it belongs – on the mountain top.

Huskies won their 12th national championship, all of which have come since 1995, with a blowout of the reigning champion South Carolina on Sunday afternoon.

In her last game, before heading for WNBA, Paige Buecker’s 17 points set in Uconn’s 82-59 win over Gamecocks.

Huskies led by 10 by half when South Carolina fought off the floor – they had only 26 points in the first 20 minutes.

It’s actually nine years since Uconn’s last title, which is their longest drought since they won their back 30 years ago. They had never passed more than five years without winning it all (from 2004 to 2009).
