Pak, China is pushing regional shift with Afghanistan

A trilateral meeting between the Pakistan-Afghanistan and China on Saturday agreed on regional reorganization and expansion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project to Afghanistan.

It was also agreed on the strategic front that the Indian influence in Afghanistan would be limited to diplomatic missions if the adaptation worked properly, the sources say.

The decisions-confirmed after a closed door meeting among acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, China’s special envoy Yue Xiaoyong and Pakistan’s special representative Mohammad Sadiq signalize a bold step towards regional adaptation.

Sources said that the Afghan Taliban silently supported Islamabad’s attitude towards the neutral investigation of the Pahagam event on April 22 and would keep away from the Indian club.

After several meetings, including one-on-one meetings on Friday night and Saturday, it was decided that the Afghan Taliban will host the sixth round of trilateral foreign minister’s conversations with China and Pakistan in Kabul.

This will be the first high -level negotiations to take place under the taliban leadership, the source added.

China and Pakistan Grønbyed also support for deeper political and economic cooperation with Afghanistan, while sidelizing the Western influence in South and Central Asia.

Sources said China would support the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan politically and economically, which will also be associated with regional countries through road connections.

As part of the ongoing trilateral engagements, Pakistan’s special envoy ended with the Chinese special representative in a meeting with the Afghan trade minister Azizi.

The special envoy called the meetings as constructive and useful for strengthening trade and financial cooperation. The three sides agreed to build on the understandings of FM level in May 2023 in Islamabad, especially on expanding CPEC to Afghanistan.

The trip to Pakistan’s special envoy was aimed at getting support from neighboring countries on Pakistan-India conflict, regional connection on Chinese initiatives and to wipe out terrorist group ER-KP from Afghan Earth, sources added.

In a post on X, Ambassador Sadiq noted that the first trilateral Pakistan-China-Afghanistan meeting provided an opportunity for convergence of views on financial and security cooperation as well as regional stability.
