Pakistani horror hit Deemak Has won international recognition and won the best editing award in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival 2025 held in Chongqing, China.

The horror -thriller was among two Pakistani films that were honored at the event along with Nayabthat shows the growing global effect of Pakistani cinema.

Directed by Rafay Rashdi and starring in Sonya House Vision, Samina Peerzada and Faysal Quraishi, Deemak has separated for his gripping tale and technical finesse.

After the award message, Rashdi expressed his gratitude on Instagram and called it a “Historical victory for Pakistani cinema on an international stage.”

He thanked SCO, the Ministry of Information and those who supported the film’s vision. “Pakistan Zindabad,” he added, sharing a photo with the award and starring actor Sonya Husyn.

House Vision, who attended the festival, also celebrated the honor on social media, wrote, “Our movie Deemak brings home an award at the prestigious film festival,” and called it a proud moment of Pakistan.

Produced and presented by Pakinomist Films, Deemak Was released nationwide on Eidul Adha and quickly became a photo office phenomenon.

It set a new record for the horror genre in the country and raised RS70 million in just its first two days. Viewers praised the film for providing a cooling down, yet emotional resonance experience, with many crediting of GEO films for supporting such a bold and innovative project.

The film explores themes of horror, folklore and complex family dynamics.
