Pakistan and China confirm their cooperation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Pakistan to participate in the 6th round of Foreign Minister’s strategic dialogue today (Tuesday) in what marks his second visit to Pakistan of three years. He was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The two parties talked about the full range of connections in Pakistan-China and further investigated regional and global issues. They shared in-depth insight into a wide range of aspects related to bilateral cooperation, including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0, trade and financial ties, multilateral cooperation and people-to-human relations.

“Understanding the strategic cooperative partnership throughout the weather between Pakistan and China, DPM/FM and FM WANG YI agreed that Pakistan-China friendship is important to maintain regional peace and stability and also indispensable for progress and prosperity in the two countries,” the foreign office said.

Both countries confirmed their strong ties and agreed to maintain close coordination and communication, both bilateral and on multilateral platforms.

Today’s meeting sets the stage for Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s visit to Beijing later this month to attend the Shanghai summit. The visit should formally start CPEC 2.0, which has suffered from a five-year delay.

Chinese FM will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir during his visit.

Both DPM Dar and Wang Yi were in Kabul yesterday to hold trilateral conversations with Afghanistan, confirming their efforts to regional cooperation and expanding CPEC to Afghanistan.
