The Pakistani army on Wednesday rejected categorically “unfounded and misleading” allegations against security forces in connection with a recent event in North Waziristan’s MIR Ali area that resulted in civilian losses.
In a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military said the tragic incident on May 19, which led to the loss of civilian life, has been mistakenly attributed to Pakistan’s security forces in certain quarters.
“These claims are absolutely baseless and are part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting the steadforders’ steadfast efforts in the ongoing terror visits,” it said.
“Initial conclusions of a comprehensive investigation launched immediately after the incident confirmed that the attack was orchestrated and performed by the Indian sponsored militant group ‘Fitna Al Khawarij’,” Ice’s said.
Fitna Al Khawarij is an expression that the state uses to refer to the forbidden Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is reportedly launching attacks on the country from Afghan Earth.
ISPR also said the perpetrators acted on behalf of “Indian Masters” and deliberately used civilian populations and residential areas such as human shields to carry out terrorist activities.
“Such tactics are aiming for unsuccessfully to sow disagreement between the local population and the security forces that together remain decisive to remove the threat of terrorism,” the statement added.
ISPR reiterated that the armed forces remain obliged to eradicate terrorism and will ensure that those involved in this “inhuman act are brought to court.
