The Pakistani Army has warned of a “safe and decisive” response to any Indian attempt to impose war, after what it called provocative acts from New Delhi in the wake of the deadly Pahagam attack, reported the military’s media wing.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a special corps chief ‘Commanders’ Conference (CCC) was led by Chief of Army Staff (Coas) General Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi Friday in the middle of increased tensions between the two core-armed neighbors.
The conference comes after the April 22 attack in Pahagam, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), who left 26 tourists died. India has blamed Pakistan for the incident without providing evidence, causing Islamabad to categorically refuse involvement and offer to participate in a “credible and transparent investigation.”
India responded with sweeping measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of Visa for Pakistani citizens and closing the Wagah-Attari boundary transition. In return, Pakistan Indian Diplomats and military advisers expelled Visa for Indian citizens, with the exception of SIKH pilgrims and closed the border crossing on its part.
During the special session of the military leadership, the forum conducted a detailed review of the prevailing Pakinomist-strategic environment focusing on the Pakistan-India standoff and wider regional security concerns.
The Pakistani army confirmed its “unreasonable decision to maintain the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity towards any aggression or misadventure.”
Coas Munir praised the “unshakable professionalism, steadfast morality and operational readiness” of the armed forces and emphasized unity with the people of Pakistan for “defending the home country at all costs.” He emphasized the importance of “increased vigilance and proactive readiness across all fronts.”
The forum expressed “serious concern about the intensification of Indian atrocities in IIOJK”, especially after the Pahagam incident and condemned “Continued targeting against innocent civilians along the control line (LOC) of Indian Occupation forces.”
“It was repeated that such inhuman and unprovoked actions only serve to escalate regional tensions and will be met with a resolute and proportionate reaction,” the statement states.
Commander noticed India’s “consistent pattern of exploitation for crises to achieve political and military goals” accusing it of following “a predictable template whereby internal management failures are externalized.”
ISPR also said: “These events have often collapsed with one -sided features from India to change the status quo, as seen in 2019, when India similarly exploited the Pulwama incident to unilaterally change the status quo for IIOJK through the revocation of Article 370.”
With reference to the current episode, the military said the Pahagam attack “seems to be part of a conscious strategy to redirect Pakistan’s focus away from the western front, as well as the ongoing national efforts on economic resuscitation;
“Such a redirecting tactic aimed at providing operational respiratory space to Indian terrorist projects will never succeed,” the forum declared.
The army also expressed concern that India is trying to weapon water by utilizing the Pahagam incident to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty. “This constitutes a dangerous attempt to weapon water that threatens the livelihood and nourishment of over 240 million Pakistanis and escalating strategic instability in South Asia,” it warned.
In addition, the forum expressed “deep alarm over credible evidence of direct Indian military and intelligence involvement in orchestrating terrorist activities inside Pakistan”, which describes them as “state-sponsored actions” and “an obvious violation of international norms that are universally unacceptable.”
If so, Pakistan’s determination said the military, “Conscious destabilization efforts from the Indian government will be confronted and defeated with determination and clarity.”
The conference concluded with Coas Munir expressing “complete confidence in the operational readiness, deterrence position and morals for all formations and strategic powers to defend the nation across the entire threat spectrum.”
