Pakistan, China agrees to improve media ties to fight fake news

Pakistan and China agree to strengthen ties and launch joint broadcast projects to effectively tackle false news and disinformation.

This agreement was obtained during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Information and Issuing Attaullah Tarar and Deputy Head of the Publicity Department in CPC Central Committee and Party Secretary of National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) for China’s Minister Cao Shumin.

Both sides agreed that strengthening media, cultural and people-to-people relationship would introduce new dimensions to the long-standing Pakistan China-Friendship, reported Radio Pakistan on Thursday.

The two leaders discussed the improvement of technical education and institutional collaboration with emphasis on developing an overall narrative to counter the spread of fake news.

They also talked about the potential agreement between China Central Television (CCTV) and Pakistan Television (PTV) to promote the exchange of information and promote cooperation between the two TV stations

Tarar expressed Pakistan’s readiness to translate this bilateral medias collaboration into practical steps.
