Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday strongly convicted the Israeli cabinet’s recent approval of a plan to take control of Gaza City, called it illegal and uneven and warned that the move represents a dangerous escalation in the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
In a statement sent to his official X account, PM Sharif said the latest developments would only elaborate on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and derail all the prospects of peace in the region.
“We strongly condemn the Israeli cabinet’s approval of a plan to take illegal and false control over Gaza City. This corresponds to a dangerous escalation in an already disastrous war against the people of Palestine,” the prime minister said.
He emphasized that the basic cause of the ongoing tragedy is Israel’s “long -lasting, illegal occupation of Palestinian territory,” which he said continues to block any meaningful path to lasting peace. “As long as this occupation lasts, peace will remain evasive,” warned Prime Minister Sharif.
The Prime Minister repeated Pakistan’s unwavering support to the Palestinian people and confirmed their right to self-determination and establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with al-QD’s al-Sharif as its capital in accordance with the US nations and organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) solutions.
PM, who called for the international community, called on the urgent intervention to stop what he described as Israel’s “unjustified aggression”, to protect innocent civilians and to ensure the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian help to Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office’s spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan, on the strongest terms, condemned the storm of the al-Aqsa mosque of thousands of Israeli settlers, including senior officials and Knesset members. “These provocations, accompanied by offensive declarations, are conscious attempts to initiate religious emotions and destabilize the region,” he warned.
