Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed Pakistan’s sustained obligation to the UN peace -preserving missions on Thursday and called on the international community to adapt UN operations to meet developing global challenges.

In a message on the United Nations peacekeeping day, he emphasized that more than 235,000 Pakistani troops have earned in 48 UN missions in the past seven decades.

A total of 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have lost their lives in the duty of duty.

“This day provides an appropriate opportunity to assess the challenges facing the UN peacekeeping forces, such as rising ensilateralism, financial restrictions, rising threats to security and security of the UN peacekeepers, incorrect information campaigns aimed at UN satisfaction operations and the effects of new technologies,” he said.

PM Shehbaz called for increased international efforts to support security and operational efficiency of peacekeeping forces around the world.

PM Shehbaz also called for stronger support for the United Nations military observer group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), which monitors the ceasefire along the control line of the disputed territory Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

PM Shehbaz said the recent development in South Asia reinforced it urgently to solve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Security Council’s resolutions and the will of Kashmiri people.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar repeated the Prime Minister’s feelings and noted that the UN peacekeeping remains one of the most reliable and cost -effective means of preserving global peace.

He called for technological innovation and strengthened regional partnerships to improve future operations.

Pakistan and the Republic Korea hosted the United Nations Peacekeeping Meeting in Islamabad on April 15 to April 16, 2025, with a theme “Against a safer and more effective peacekeeping: leverage technology and integrated approaches.”
