Pakistan ensures consensus by the UN on funding for Islamophobia -Release

Pakistan has secured agreement in the fifth committee of the UN General Assembly to a decision to finance the newly established office for the special envoy on the fight against Islamophobia, confirmed officials on Saturday.

The resolution of revised budget estimates was adopted without voting during the closing session for the first part of the 79th Unga.

Pakistan’s first secretary of the UN mission, Jibran Khan Durrani, delivered the national statement and expressed gratitude to the organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC), G77 and China and other international partners for their support.

He noted that the result reflected the success of collective diplomacy and inclusive. Pakistan played a lead role as one of the most important dealers during the committee’s discussions.

The resolution ensures that the office of the special envoy on the fight against Islamophobia will be operational from the 1st month.

The mandate of the broadcast will include monitoring, reporting and advice on rising Islamophobic trends globally and supporting the UN’s broader efforts against religious intolerance.

The adoption marks a milestone for Pakistan’s multilateral commitment after its successful push to appoint March 15 as the International Day to combat Islamophobia.
