Islamabad:
In accordance with the historic defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the Federal Government has a high-level 18-member committee. The task of the committee is to conduct financial negotiations between the two nations under Pakistan – Saudi Arabia Economic Framework, says the government’s review.
According to the announcement, the committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will oversee discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in addition to defense and energy to include environmental protection and climate stability.
The committee will be co -chair of the Federal Minister of Climate Change Senator Musadik Masood Malik and Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) National Coordinator Lt. General Sarfraz Ahmed.
Other members include federal minister of financial affairs, Ahad Cheema; Minister of Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan; Minister of Energy, Awais Leghari; Minister of Food Safety, Rana Tanveer Hussain; Minister of Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja; and Minister of Communication, Abdul Aleem Khan. Senior officials such as SECP chairman, AKIF SAEED and STATE BANK Vice -Recovery Dr. Inayat Hussain is also part of the team.
The committee will also include representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to ensure extensive coordination.
According to the announcement, the co -chairman will form dedicated teams to conduct quick negotiations with their Saudi colleagues. All members have been asked to ensure that their availability from October 6, 2025.
The establishment of the committee reflects Pakistan’s intention to expand bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia beyond traditional sectors. The inclusion of both civil and military officials aims to ensure close coordination between economic diplomacy and defense institutions.
The Prime Minister’s office has ordered the committee to accelerate the negotiations with Saudi Arabia. It also instructed that travel approvals for any related meetings will be treated the same day within an hour. SIFC will facilitate the committee’s operations and send travel recommendations to the Prime Minister’s Office for Rapid Approval.
The committee may induce additional members when needed, and will submit performance reports every fifteen days to the Prime Minister.
Sources said that during upcoming conversations, Pakistan is expected to request renewed Saudi investments in the oil and agricultural sectors under a ‘repurchase’ model.
Islamabad also plans to improve Pakistan’s exports to reduce $ 3 billion trade deficits currently in Saudi Arabia’s advantage. The long -delayed oil refinery project, which is pending for almost a decade, will also probably be discussed.
They added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to make an official visit to Saudi Arabia in the last week of October to end financial agreements under the new bilateral framework.
